Selections have consequences

We were recently subjected to a second presentation on the dismal state of our union by our current Pretender in Chief. As expected, it was filled with lies, distortions and half truths. He claimed credit for things he didn't do, and blamed others for the problems he created. Throughout, this Divider in Chief, while claiming to be leader of all, continued to represent Republicans and conservatives as extremists, domestic terrorists, and threats to democracy.

Could this doddering fool actually be the honestly elected leader of our country, or is he just a willing tool of the swamp, able to squawk loudly when poked, and otherwise spouting whatever nonsense his handlers tell him to say? Was he elected or selected? To answer that we will need to look at the current state of our system of elections, what they were, and what they are today.

Social Security, Medicare, and the State of the Union

In his State of the Union address last night, dishonest Joe Biden took another disgraceful cheap shot at Republicans by deceitfully claiming that Republicans wanted to "sunset" Social Security and Medicare. The ensuing uproar led him to pause his speech and claim that only a few Republicans wanted to do that... no, actually only one... contact his office for a copy of the proposal. He then continued his presentation of lies and distortions misrepresented as an accurate picture of the state of our Union.

Most politicians recognize that the Social Security and Medicare programs are a "third rail" of politics, and those who seek to challenge or reform the programs do so at their peril. The sad fact, though, is that these programs will die on their own, unless something is done soon.

What if they gave a war and nobody came?

If you were to drive south from Moscow, you might take the M2 roadway. About 200 kilometers from Moscow, a bit north of the city of Tula, highway E105 branches off to continue south. A few kilometers away and roughly parallel to the E105 is a twin track railway. Both run through the agricultural regions of southern Russia, and down through eastern Ukraine all the way to Crimea and the port city of Sevastopol. The twin track railroad is important because it allows continuous rail traffic in both directions without having to pull trains onto sidings for traffic in the opposite direction to pass.

About time someone knocked some climate sense into the country

Climate CultFinally we got someone who really understands the critical importance of addressing climate change! Imagine if we hadn't been able to jigger the 2020 election in time so we could take over and do things right, Donald Trump might still be in office, and we would have peons burning two dollar gas and traveling wherever they liked. We might even have enough food to feed everybody and lots of electricity available whenever we needed it.

Liberals make expensive pets - try a dog instead

Liberals make expensive pets - try a dog insteadOne of my Left leaning friends recently passed on a clipping entitled "I tried owning a Liberal but they got too expensive". I think his intention was to show how superior those on the Left were, but it got me thinking. A centerpiece of the clipping was an economic comparison showing how much higher urban Democrat incomes were than rural Republican incomes. The clipping showed an urban Democrat income of $45,900 per person, with rural Republicans earning $30,100, a 50% difference in favor of the Dems.

A Sustainable Climate Friendly Alternative to Fossil Fuels

A Sustainable Climate Friendly Alternative to Fossil FuelsWind power and solar are generally considered clean and environmentally friendly. Although the manufacture of their components, the generators, blades, solar cells, concrete foundations, and other parts generates many pollutants and releases a lot of CO2, the actual systems produce no CO2 when they are producing power. That makes them desirable from the viewpoint of climate change advocates.

The Unaccountability of Politicians

The Unaccountability of PoliticiansJust a few hours ago, the US Supreme Court announced they would decline to hear the Brunson vs. Adams case. For those who don't know, this case claimed that Congress, in failing to investigate claims of fraud in the 2020 election, committed an act of treason that had national security consequences equivalent to an act of war. The proposed remedy was to remove all members of Congress who voted to certify the election results without investigation, and to remove from office those officials who were installed as a result. Buried in the case, though, was a much deeper issue: should elected officials be held accountable for upholding their oath of office?

A Christian Nation if you can keep it

A Christian Nation if you can keep itWe often hear that the United States is a Christian nation. While true that the substantial majority of citizens profess to a belief in Christianity, how can it be a Christian nation when there are so many other faiths, and even unbelievers, among the population? What does it even mean to be a "Christian nation"? One answer frequently given to these questions is that the original settlers of this country, the Pilgrims, were Christians and that the nation and the laws they created here reflected those beliefs. This Christian influence continued through the Founding Fathers creation of a Constitutional Republic and beyond. Although a state religion is expressly forbidden by our Constitution, Christian principles informed many of our laws and customs for nearly all our history. Hence, we claim the US to be a Christian nation.

Let Them Eat Bugs

Let Them Eat BugsThe global elites have shown great interest in insects as a source of food. Not for themselves, mind you, but rather for the rest of us. It is only incidental that using bugs as a food source would reserve fresh fruits and vegetables, beef, pork and chicken, and other current foodstuffs for those most deserving, such as themselves. We have to ask, though, is eating bugs really such a good thing for humans?

A Christmas Night

A Christmas NightOn this night we gather in solemn celebration of a birth. No-one knows when this birth actually occurred, but we have chosen this night to celebrate it in absence of any definitive report. Tradition has it that the season of birth was mid-winter, although that may be a concession to earlier pagan beliefs that winter was the season of rebirth leading to a new spring and summer. Our Scripture tells us that it was the time of a great census by Rome, a time most likely to happen in winter when people would not be encumbered by the needs of food production and other preoccupations of an agrarian society. It is recorded that it was during that required pilgrimage to fulfill the census that this birth took place. The actual time of year of the birth is not of particular significance, though.

When Tyranny Comes to Call

When Tyranny Comes to CallBrazil seems poised on a knife edge between being a free and democratic nation, and falling to a communist dictatorship. The once free nation of Canada has succumbed to a tyrannical cabal in Ottawa headed by Mr. Trudeau. Farmers in the Netherlands are protesting the theft of their farms to satisfy the Marxist agenda of certain European parliamentarians. Klaus Schwab wants to establish a one-world government, with those he selects in charge. The Communist Party of China controls its people with social credits and lethal punishment for dissent. Everywhere we look, including within our own borders, there seems to be a plethora of leaders with the idea of totalitarian control. Whether it is called Communism or Socialism or Fascism or Marxism, or some other ism, it is all about the control of a populace by a small number of "elite" rulers - with the best of intentions, of course. Whatever name it is called by, the end result is a return to a primitive time of kings and aristocracy and autocratic rule even though we don't use those terms any more. The end result is still the same.

Will Republicans Ever Learn?

Will Republicans Ever Learn?Really! Come on, ya'll. You're not an elephant, you're not a donkey, although some may be jackasses. Here you are, wallowing in self-recrimination wondering why you can never seem to win. You expect elections to be fair and accurately reflect the will of the people. You complain about cheating, but then you act as though it never happens, even though your opponents use it regularly. Democrats make up stories about others, and then act as though those stories were true. One story about Republicans is that we cheat in elections. Since they believe that to be true, they feel fully justified in their own cheating. From their perspective, we are just whining because they are better cheaters than we are. Elections are just a game, and may the best cheater win!

If I Were to Steal an Election ...

If I Were to Steal an Election ...We are within days of states certifying the midterm results. One significant race is still up in the air. Republicans seem resigned to the loss of the Red Wave, doing as Republicans so often do – blaming ourselves for somehow failing to do what we should have done to win. Actually, the only thing we failed to do was to fix our election systems when we had the time and support. We knew that mail-in voting was a recipe for fraud, and that our dirty voter rolls invited abuse. We knew that the weaknesses in voter identification, chains of custody, and other areas had been exploited before, yet we somehow thought this time would be different. The definition of insanity….

Courage is Essential

CourageIt looks like Republicans have recovered the US House, with a shot at keeping the Senate balanced. Unfortunately, the Biden regime is still in power, so much damage can yet be done. There is a special danger in the next two months as the Left engages in last minute desperate acts to emplace as much of their agenda as they can. Not a time to relax This is not the time to relax our vigilance nor slacken our efforts. We cannot afford complacency. Much mischief can still be done in the two months before a new Congress is convened.

When Will They Ever Learn

When Will They Ever LearnHere we are, a week after the midterms, and things are still up in the air. Some locations still haven't even finished counting, and lawsuits are beginning to fly. The promised Red Wave has become more like a pink trickle. The talking heads and Republican pundits are wondering: "Where did we go wrong?". "Did we have the wrong message?" "Was it all Trump's fault?" "Did we have bad breath?" "Did we use the wrong deodorant?"
